Five reasons for electroplating coating to fall off

As a protective treatment method for metal surfaces, electroplating is widely used in various metal productions because of its irreplaceable advantages in beautifying product appearance, enhancing metal texture, improving corrosion resistance, and wear resistance. Therefore, nickel-iron plating, iron-tin plating, gold-silver plating, aluminum-silver plating, and other plating types have been derived. Although these plating types are different, many manufacturers have reported a problem during the production process: that is, the bonding strength of the plating is not enough and it is easy to fall off!

Why does this phenomenon occur? There are many reasons.

Five reasons for electroplating coating to fall off

1. Electroplating solution is contaminated

During electroplating production in factories, harmful impurities such as metal oxides, metal impurities, insoluble suspended matter, and organic impurities enter the electroplating solution for various reasons. Excessive accumulation of these impurities affects the properties of the electroplating solution and the quality of the coating. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly clean up impurities and treat the electroplating solution.

2. Poor pre-treatment of substrate

If there is no problem with the plating solution, you may need to check again whether there is an ash layer or liquid residue on the surface of the substrate, as well as other chemical substances. If the plated product is not cleaned well, it may affect the flatness, corrosion resistance and bonding strength of the electroplating layer, or even lead to plating deposition, looseness, and discontinuity, or even plating peeling, making the product lose its practical use value. Therefore, ensuring the good pre-treatment process of electroplating is also an important task.

3. Inadequate process control

Process control plays a vital role in the quality of electroplating coatings. If there are no problems with the plating solution and pretreatment, it is necessary to check whether there are problems with process control. The temperature in the tank, the density of the current, the pH value of the solution, the electroplating time, and other process controls must match the product. Therefore, process control must strive to be accurate.

4. Too fast production schedule

A product is often made up of many parts and components. As we all know, to complete the processing of these parts, it is often necessary to cross multiple workshops, and electroplating is one of the last processes. Therefore, we often see such a scene: the parts have not yet arrived at the electroplating workshop, and the brothers in the assembly workshop are already waiting for the parts to be assembled. This has caused the construction period to be too tight. To complete the task, everyone has been working overtime to meet the construction period, resulting in the electroplating time not meeting the process requirements, and the night working light affects the inspection, which ultimately affects the electroplating quality.

5. Unreasonable product design

Product designers and production personnel are two completely different groups of people. Product designers pay more attention to the shape, size, processing accuracy, and other conditions of product parts in the design of part drawings, but do not consider the processing technology of the product much, let alone the electroplating process. Therefore, it also brings some unnecessary troubles to the electroplating work, which also has a certain impact on the quality of electroplated products.
